McDonald was again the linchpin in Geelong’s defence in season six.
The two-time All-Australian led a strong defence that stymied opposition attack with brilliant intercepts, spoils and pressure, keeping even the competition’s top teams in check. McDonald, who captained the team for a second season, averaged 5.7 intercept possessions a game, behind only Maddy McMahon. One of the league’s best intercept defenders, McDonald leads by example on and off the field. McDonald is now the longest-serving Geelong AFLW captain after being reappointed to the role in season seven.
