Taken with the first pick in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft, Newton was placed on the inactive list for season six following a dual shoulder-reconstruction.
Prior to this, she had not missed a match since making her debut in the opening round of the 2020 season. She was nominated for the 2020 AFLW Rising Star award, named in the 2020 AFLPA 22under22 team, and was crowned the Bulldogs’ Best First Year player. A former dual-athlete, Newton was also premiership captain and dual best and fairest winner at the Northern Knights.
