West Coast’s inaugural, and current, captain Emma Swanson plied her trade with Greater Western Sydney for her first three years in the AFLW.

In 2017, Swanson was named in the All-Australian squad of 40, before being sidelined for a majority of the 2019 season with a shoulder injury. In April of that year, Swanson was signed by the Eagles and became a key pillar of the fledgling side. Swanson stood strong in the Eagles' engine room from the word go, finishing a single vote behind Dana Hooker in the Club Champion award in the team's first season. She enjoyed a career-best campaign last year, when she took out the West Coast Club Champion Award and averaged 22.2 disposals. Swanson is also a three-time Under 18 All Australian, three-time Peel Thunder best and fairest winner and four-time East Fremantle best and fairest winner.
