With Nicola Xenos going down with a season-ending knee injury just two days before St Kilda’s season-opener, Rebecca Ott was swiftly brought into the line-up. A member of the AFLW Academy and a former WNBL basketballer for the Melbourne Boomers, Ott’s height and athleticism was looked upon favourably to strengthen the Saints’ defensive stocks. Ott made her debut in round four against the Cats at RSEA Park, collecting six disposals and two marks as the red, white and black sung the song once again by night’s end. A LCL injury for the Southern Saints a few short weeks later put a line through Ott’s debut season, but a return in 2022 is well and truly on the cards.
