Whenever Rhi Watt’s in the room, you certainly about know it. And the Saints have been undeniably better off for it. That larger-than-life, infectious personality has been pivotal in building St Kilda’s tight-knit group from ground up, while her on-field leadership has been just as vital. The spiritual leader and co-captain assumed whatever role her team needed her to fulfil, with her selfless approach and team-first mentality helping her side on countless occasions throughout the year. Blanket jobs in defence on high-profile key forwards paired excellently with her industrious performances in the ruck; the latter of which were integral in setting the tone for St Kilda’s young midfield. The diehard Sainter’s versatility resulted in her finishing in the top-three for the club’s total intercepts, clearances and contested marks, along with the number one ranking for contested possessions. Watt finished Season 2021 fourth in the club’s best and fairest count after a top-10 placing in her debut year as a Saint.
