Rewind to the start of 2021, and Bianca Jakobsson had doubts as to whether she’d ever take to the football field again.
Just over a year later, the key defender is entering AFLW Season 7 as St Kilda's reigning Best and Fairest. After stepping away from the game in early 2020, the former Demon and Blue returned to footy in 2021 with the Saints and hasn't looked back. While her first season in the red, white and black was impressive, her second was outstanding. Week in and week out, Jakobsson took to the skies as she repelled opposition forwards and martialled her troops in the backline to register her name in the 'best-on' category. Her efforts throughout the year were rewarded with a photo-finish in the 2022 Best & Fairest, winning by one vote. Now with Season 7 looming, Jakobsson enters her first season as the co-vice-captain alongside Kate Shierlaw, and will be looking to lead the Saints forward in the second-half of 2022.
