A talented former basketballer, touch rugby player and track and field athlete, Brooke Brown entered the AFLW system with the athletic profile to play almost anywhere on the field.
After starting her career as a ruck/forward, Brown seems to have found her place in the team in the backline, with her speed, agility and game sense lending itself well to playing as an intercepting third tall defender. Brown played all but one game in 2022 and impressed in a rebounding role, while her speed and athleticism allowed her to transition back and perform her defensive duties well. While she was somewhat learning on the job this season, she looked comfortable in possession and her decision-making improved as the campaign progressed. She certainly showed glimpses of being able to lock down a spot in the Kangaroos’ defence for years to come.
