Newman was drafted in 2019 as a defender after earning All-Australian honours,
in the NAB AFLW Under-18 Championships and selection in the SANFLW Team of the Year in 2018 as a rebounding half-back. She then made the transition into a forward in her first season at the Crows. Newman debuted in round one and went on to play four games.
