AFL and News Corp expand streaming partnership to NAB League Girls

THE AFL is pleased to announce an expanded streaming partnership with News Corp Australia, which will showcase the NAB League Girls under 19 talent pathway competition to a broader audience.

The deal will see the future stars of women’s football feature in a match of the round to be live streamed via the Herald Sun website each week, a first for NAB League Girls. All other matches throughout the season will be live streamed via the NAB League App, thanks to Telstra.

The NAB League Girls 2022 season starts this weekend, Saturday 22 January, with the Grand Final to take place on the weekend of 9/10 April. The first match to be live streamed on the Herald Sun website will see reigning premiers Oakleigh Chargers take on Northern Knights on Sunday 23 January, starting at 10am. AFL Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Dillon said the partnership between the AFL and News Corp Australia will expose the girls’ competition and the future stars of the women’s game to more people.

“The NAB League showcases some of the best young talent in the country and this live streaming arrangement ensures the competition will reach bigger audiences.

“We are thrilled that News Corp have expanded their commitment to taking football to more people by streaming NAB League Girls matches, which is a great result for the players as well as fans, families and AFLW recruiters.”

News Sport Network's Managing Director, Michael Wilkins, said the expanded commitment to live streaming pathways competitions such as NAB League Girls added to the company's growing suite of streaming offerings.

"We are delighted to extend our AFL coverage with the welcome addition of the NAB League Girls to our live streaming program for 2022," Mr Wilkins said.

"Not only will this new broadcast agreement shine a light on the next generation of female football stars, but it demonstrates News Corp Australia's continued commitment to celebrating and showcasing women in sport. This is a rapidly growing area and we are proud to play an ongoing role in its future.”

As part of the partnership between the AFL and News Corp Australia, the Herald Sun will continue to live stream one NAB League Boys match per week in 2022, with all remaining matches to be live streamed on the NAB League App. The NAB League Boys season starts on April 2.
