Eagles young gun, versatile Giant earn R6 Rising Star nominations

WEST Coast young gun Ella Roberts and Greater Western Sydney midfielder Emily Pease have been recognised for their impressive round six performances by receiving NAB AFLW Rising Star nominations.

Roberts starred as the Eagles succumbed to a second consecutive heartbreaking loss, this time at the hands of the Hawks. The The 17-year-old gathered 15 disposals, took four marks, and booted her first AFLW goal.

The highly-touted youngster burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old, playing a vital role by booting two goals in Peel Thunder's WAFL Women's flag in 2020.

West Coast promptly snapped up the local product at pick No.14 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, and after beginning her career as a tall forward, she has showcased her versatility playing in a midfield role, displaying her elite athleticism, speed, and brilliant football IQ.

Eagles land top prospect Ella Roberts in AFLW steal

Roberts was the star of the 2021 NAB AFLW Under-19 Championships, being named the MVP.

She becomes the second Eagle in as many weeks to be nominated, following on from ruck Sarah Lakay's nod last week.

Pease was recognised for her impressive display in the Giants' 17-point victory over the Blues.

Pease, who is in her third season at the club, was selected with pick No.29 in the 2020 NAB AFLW draft after impressing with her ability to provide run and carry off half-back and versatility to move into the midfield.

The 20-year-old's versatility was on display as she gathered 10 disposals, laid four tackles, and booted two goals in the victory.

She enjoyed a breakout season in season six, playing nine games and claiming the Giants' Rising Star Award.

In the off-season, Pease signed a contract extension that will see her remain with GWS until at least the end of the 2023 season.
